Project Oasis is a global research project on digital media led by SembraMedia with support of Google News Initiative and a growing list of partners.

The media outlets mapped and analyzed in Brazil are part of the research we have carried out in more than 65 countries to offer valuable insights into business models, trends, and best practices that inspire collaboration and strengthen media sustainability. We are now expanding our research into new regions, including countries in Oceania, Africa, and Asia.

By making this information accessible, Project Oasis aims to foster a stronger, more resilient media ecosystems that protects press freedom and serves the public interest.

Methodology and Report

The media profiles from Brazil in our Global Project Oasis Media Directory are from research conducted in 2023 by Ajor, with support from the Google News Initiative

Between September 2023 and February 2024, the team at Digital Journalism Association (AJOR, in Portuguese) conducted 164 interviews with media leaders, adding responses to structured questions to their database. Their work brings together over 164 innovative digital media outlets committed to diversity and democracy. The interviews included a diversity of regions, with approximately 40% of the organizations interviewed located outside the south-southeast axis. In total, there were 57 declines to participate—17 of which were AJOR associates—due to lack of interest or time.

All the media outlets included were selected based on our criteria for inclusion.

The trends, insights and other information presented in our 2024 report are based on our analysis of this selection of media outlets, and the information they provided during the research phase.

You can find all Brazilian media profiles in the Global Project Oasis Media Directory.
